Porto Heli itself has been inhabited by people even during the ancient times because of its location, which was built in 468 BC by refugees of ancient Tyrins after their city was taken over by the Argives and was provided to them by the pepoople of Hermionis. It was then named Alieis as a result of the main activity of its inhabitants, fishing, and became one of the port cities of Hermionis.
Nowadays, the cove of Porto Heli numbers quite a few porto heli greece hotels which accommodate people at various times during the year, but the ideal time for visitors has to be the summertime, both because they can go swimming at either the beach of Porto Heli itself or at other famous beaches close to it, those being Kyparrisia, Kosta, Ververonta, Korakia, Limanakia, Mpaltiza and Chrysi Akti, or take up some kind of water sport since the area has clubs dedicated to them, focusing on scuba diving, sailing and jet ski riding. Visitors of Porto Heli can also travel to the picturesque island of Spetses which is right next to the cove itself.
