An Overview Of Kos And Its Hotels

Kos is an island located in the southeast of the Aegean Sea and the third largest island of the Dodecanese island chain, and is heavily focused on accommodating tourists at the various kos hotels of the island.

The island has been inhabited for thousands of years, initially during the Minoan and later in the Mycenaean times, as proven by the findings which date back to those times. It has also been mentioned as a site of battle during the gods of mount Olympus against the Giants, and is also mentioned in the Labors of Hercules, when the titular hero was washed ashore the island’s northern coastline, which in turn led to him being worshipped there and was also said to have established a line of descendants, one of whom was Hippocrates, the founder of medicine, who was born there during the year 460 BC.

Nowadays, Kos is one of the constant choices for tourists, which is also proved by the large numbers of visitors arriving at the island and the bookings of kos hotels. Aside the self-titled capital of the island, other locations of touristic importance are its large towns, those being Kefalos, Kardamaina, Antimachia, Pylio, Zipari and of course Tigkaki, which is right next to the sea and holds environmental importance because of its wetlands which also provide salt via evaporation and gather flocks of flamingos, and lastly Mastichari which offers regular naval routes towards the island of Kalymnos.
